Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Hockey Alumni Chapter Created

Summary

A recent initiative by former Hockey Alumni to establish a centralized RMC Hockey Alumni Association under the umbrella of the RMC Alumni Association was recently created.  Led by a group of dedicated individuals, the RMC Hockey Alumni Association will work closely with the RMC Hockey Program, the Athletic Department, the Royal Military College of Canada and the RMC Alumni Association to build upon the lengthy and successful tradition of Hockey at RMC.

The name of this committee shall be the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Hockey Alumni Chapter, hereinafter known as RMC Hockey Alumni.

MISSION:  To establish a strong base of hockey alumni and supporters to ensure long-term sustainability and promote the Royal Military College of Canada Varsity Hockey Program.

VISION:  A proud and supportive group of RMC Hockey Alumni for the RMC Hockey Program

OBJECTIVES:

In order to deliver on the Mission of the RMC Hockey Alumni Association RMC Hockey Alum will:

  1. Develop a network to increase the connections and support of all RMC Hockey Alumni and friends and family of Alumni.
  2. Advocate for the RMC Hockey Program
  3. Independently speak with the RMC Alumni Association and the College directly to support the RMC Hockey Program
  4. Increase the brand, marketing, and funding of the RMC Hockey program
  5. Demonstrate to potential new players, current players, and graduating player the bond and connection of being an RMC Hockey Player
  6. Maintain a network of alumni and friends to offer and provide career advice and professional assistance to players and other members
  7. Potentially act as a template for other RMC varsity programs

CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP:  Membership within the RMC Hockey Alumni Association will be open to various categories of individuals as grouped below:

  • All alumni (Players, Coaches, Staff) of any team of the RMC Varsity Hockey Program (RMC Redmen/Paladins in the CIAU/CIS/U Sports) shall be members of the Chapter.
  • Any family members of players, coaches or staff of the RMC Varsity Hockey Program shall be members of the Chapter.
  • Any individual who has rendered outstanding service to the RMC Varsity Hockey Program may become an honorary member upon identification of such by the Executive Committee.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:  The executive committee shall plan and implement the goals of the RMC Hockey Alumni, as long as they are not in conflict with The Royal Military College of Canada, the Royal Military College of Canada Alumni Association, the Royal Military College of Canada Athletic Department or the RMC Varsity Hockey Program.

The powers of the Executive Committee shall include:

  1. Promoting the goals of the RMC Hockey Alumni
  2. Approving an annual budget for the RMC Hockey Alumni
  3. Raising funds for the RMC Varsity Hockey Program
  4. Assisting and advocating for the RMC Varsity Program as required.
  5. Making policies, rules and regulations for operating the RMC Hockey Alumni
  6. Voting authority of agenda items

The Executive Committee shall consist of the following officers:

  1. President – 20751 Wayne Green, RMC 1997
  2. Vice-President – 19395 Mark Prefontaine, RMC 1994
  3. Secretary/Treasurer – 19416 Jeremy Stowe, RMC 1994
  4. Up to 3 Directors-at-large (ideally a minimum of one per decade)
  5. Ex-Officio – Coach 24974 Richard Lim, RMC 2011
  6. Representative of the Royal Military College of Canada (TBC)
  7. Communications person (TBC)

The President, or in his/her absence, the Vice-President, shall preside at all meetings of the committee. In the absence of both, a Director shall be appointed by members present.

Vacancies shall be filled by a majority vote of the Committee for the remaining term of the position vacancy.

ANNUAL MEETING:  Annual Meeting.  An annual meeting of the RMC Hockey Alumni Board of Directors shall be held either in person or virtually at a time and place agreed by the Board.  This meeting will be held to discuss the business and affairs of the RMC Hockey Alumni in order to report back to the RMC Alumni Association.

MINUTES:  The Board shall keep regular minutes of its proceedings.  These minutes shall be sent to the RMC Alumni Association and to Board Members not more than thirty (30) days after the meeting.

By supporting RMC Hockey, individuals are supporting an organization that serves as a vehicle for the transformation of young Canadians into something special.  A transformation that will give them skills and the mindset to succeed not only in a military training context but also experience personal success in life and have a profound impact on their respective communities for the rest of their lives.
