Thanks to the support of the Class of 1966, this past weekend the Debate and International Affairs Society (DIAS) at Royal Military College of Canada/Collège militaire royal du Canada attended McMUN, hosted by McGill University in Montreal. McMUN is an annually held model United Nations (MUN) conference attended by over 1000 delegates from schools across Canada and the United States. It boasts the record of being the largest university MUN in Canada and the second largest in North America.
This year, DIAS sent a team of six N/OCdts to compete at McMUN. Each delegate represented a unique country (or historical figure) in their committees. The topics were wide ranging, spanning from the development of science and technology to the Burkina Faso/Mali border dispute in 1983. OCdt Sanghvi was also granted the privilege to participate in a committee session at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on short notice.
After a weekend of rigorous debate and diplomacy, the N/OCdts of DIAS enhanced their communication skills, created connections with fellow delegates, and perfected their resolution-writing skills, all of which are key to their development as future leaders and officers of the Canadian Armed Forces. The team also had the chance to meet up with our USMA counterparts, expanding the RMC-USMA weekend beyond the peninsula.
DIAS is incredibly grateful to the Class of 1966 for providing opportunities like McMUN to our N/OCdts. The generous support from the Alumni has allowed cadets to pursue their interests in international affairs, debate, and diplomacy.
The following is a list of delegates from RMC and their committees:
OCdt Sanghvi in SDG 9: Build Resilient Infrastructure, Promote Inclusive Industrialization, and Foster Innovation (ICAO)
