Established by Major Bill Young (RMC 1936) and Joyce Young, the J.D. Young Memorial Lecture honours the memory of Major John Douglas Young (RMC 1937) who was killed in action on D-Day, as well as his father, the late Major-Gen. James V. Young (RMC 1911).
Every year or so, we celebrate the Young lecture by inviting a prominent leader to travel to Kingston, Ontario, and spend a day with us. During that time, the speaker visits undergraduate and graduate students, delivers the lecture to those students, staff and members of the general public who wish to attend.
There is much latitude given to the speaker regarding his or her topic but the central theme must be around the topic of leadership. The inspiration of a prominent speaker serves well to promote excellence and instill valuable knowledge to our young Officer-Cadets, effectively providing them with examples of success and a role model to emulate.
