The Combat Weapons Team (CWT) is a group of RMC’s top performing cadets from all elements who compete at multiple international shooting events annually. These shooting events are hosted in the US and in Europe with thousands of competitors and spectators coming from other NATO countries to compete.
These events are excellent experiences for the cadets as they are not only exposed to other NATO forces, but they are afforded an opportunity to represent RMC and Canada’s military skills, professionalism, and commitment to excellence abroad. However, even with the school’s top cadets and the hours of weekly training they commit to the team, there are a few areas in which the team could better represent RMC and Canada.
When the team last went to the US for the annual Sig Sauer Academy shooting competition, the team found itself outmatched due to the other NATO countries equipment that specialized in competition shooting. These key pieces of kit gave those countries a leg up on RMC’s team.
The RMC Combat Weapon’s team is seeking funding for the 2025/2026 season to fund Canadian made competition style shooting kits. The CAF does not offer this specialized kit which includes competition shooting dry training systems, tactical flashlights, and modular plate carriers.
During a competition where milliseconds are counted, these key pieces of kit and training equipment add up to the success of the team. All this equipment is inaccessible for the cadets from the CAF and in most cases, the CAF does not have the specialized kit we need.
The importance of this kit is paramount in RMC’s success. Not only will the cadets look more professional representing RMC and Canada in a better light on the international stage, but it will afford the top cadets of the school an overall better experience when competing.
