Royal Military College Saint-Jean is sending a delegation of 12 – 2nd year students and one Staff to take part in a Cultural Canadian Indigenous Exchange. The weeklong activity is planned for 2025 with Iqaluit Inuit community (Nunavut).
This activity aims to expose the participants to one of Canada’s indigenous culture and way of life and to introduce them to a reality that is often unknown to them and too many CAF officers. It will be an opportunity to develop a better understanding of the Canadian Rangers, an opportunity that is not given early enough in some of CAF officer’s careers. The exchange program will touch upon the cultural aspect of the Inuit community but will also be an opportunity to take part in some military type activities with the Canadian Rangers.
This is a unique opportunity for our OCdts that involves all four CMC pillars and is funded from donations from our Truth, Duty, Valour Fund.
It will provide a chance for OCdts to share experiences with a Canadian indigenous population and build ties with them. This will help them develop a true picture of the indigenous culture as well as raise their awareness of CAF presence and raison d’être in the North. It will give them an opportunity to develop diplomatic skills as they will act as ambassadors for the CMCs, the Canadian Armed Forces. These skills and knowledge will be useful once they have graduated, when they are deployed domestically on our national territory.
