RMC recently attended the Carleton Model NATO simulation in Ottawa, ON. This is an annual competition that the team has participated in for several years thanks to the generous support of the Alumni Association, and simulates the functions, policies and procedures of NATO. Over 20 schools from across Canada attended this simulation.
This year, a team of five N/OCdts competed at this event. The delegation as a whole represented the United States of America, with each delegate representing US policy on a separate simulated committee. The simulation provided a realistic environment for Cadets to practice negotiation, coalition-building, and international diplomacy. These types of simulations help to build soft skills in future leaders, including critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills by exposing them to complex defence challenges that require cooperation to reach consensus. This experience fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the role international alliances play in Canadian defence, building better informed leaders for the Canadian Armed Forces of tomorrow.
The Delegation also had the opportunity to visit the British High Commission, Polish Embassy, Swedish Embassy and Estonian Embassy. Each hosted the delegates and answered a variety of questions on their state’s defence policy.
The delegation is incredibly grateful to the Class of 1966 and the RMC Alumni Association for providing opportunities like The Carleton MNATO to our N/OCdts. The generous support from the Alumni Association has allowed cadets to pursue their interests in international affairs, debate, and diplomacy.

OCdt Bacon and OCdt Mohammed each received the Top Overall Delegate Award for their exceptional performance in the Military Committee and Partnerships and Cooperative Security Committee respectively, while RMC was honored with the Top Overall Delegation Award for its outstanding participation in the simulation.
