From the rink at the Royal Military College of Canada to the forefront of allied space operations, Major‑General Kyle C. Paul exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and excellence that define the RMC alumni community.
A native of Wakaw, Saskatchewan, Major‑General Paul was recruited to RMC to play hockey and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1994. As a member of the RMC Men’s Hockey team, he balanced the demands of varsity athletics with academic and military training—an early demonstration of the discipline and teamwork that would define his career. He graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from the Royal Military College of Canada.
A Distinguished Career in Aerospace and Joint Operations
Following graduation, Major‑General Paul pursued a highly accomplished career as an Aerospace Controller and Air Battle Manager, serving in a wide range of operational roles across Canada, the United States, and NATO. His experience includes assignments with NORAD Air Defence Sectors, the NATO Combined Aerospace Operations Centre, USAF E‑3 Airborne Warning and Control Squadrons, and the Royal Canadian Air Force Tactical Control Radar Squadron, as well as service with 1st Canadian Division.
His operational deployments span major international and domestic missions, including Operation ECHO with NATO, Operation EndURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan, Operation PLATEAU as part of Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team, and Operation IMPACT in Iraq, along with numerous domestic deployments in both Canada and the United States.
Command, Strategic Leadership, and Space Operations
Throughout his career, Major‑General Paul has been entrusted with significant command and leadership responsibilities. His command experience includes 42 Radar Squadron, the Canadian Detachment at the Eastern Air Defense Sector, and Air Task Force Iraq. He has also held senior staff roles within 1st Canadian Air Division, Canadian Joint Operations Command, on RCAF staff, and as Special Advisor to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.
In recent years, his career has placed him at the center of allied space operations. Prior to his current appointment, Major‑General Paul served as Deputy Commander for Operations, Plans, Training, and Force Development at U.S. Space Force Headquarters Space Operations Command. He now serves as Deputy Commander, Combined Joint Force Space Component, United States Space Command, based at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
In this role, he leads joint and combined personnel across more than 50 tactical units, integrating global space operations to deliver combat‑relevant space effects for combatant commanders, coalition partners, and the Joint Force. He also oversees several key space operations centres and works closely with international allies, government agencies, academic institutions, and commercial partners to advance space awareness and mission success.
Lifelong Learning and Service
Major‑General Paul’s career is complemented by a strong commitment to professional education. Beyond his RMC degree, his academic achievements include a Master of Arts in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, graduation from the Joint Command and Staff Program, and completion of the United States Air Force Air War College, along with numerous specialized operational and leadership courses.
Promoted to Brigadier‑General in 2022, he has been recognized with numerous Canadian and U.S. honours, reflecting a career marked by operational excellence, trusted leadership, and allied cooperation.
An RMC Legacy
Across more than three decades of service, Major‑General Paul has carried forward the values instilled at RMC—discipline, teamwork, and commitment to service—first as a varsity athlete, and later as a senior leader shaping the future of space operations. He continues to represent the College with distinction on the international stage, supported throughout his career by his wife Jennifer and their two daughters.
