Un prestigieux prix de leadership sera remis (PDF)<\/a> \u00e0 l\u2019olympienne Beckie Scott<\/a> le 9 mars 2020, \u00e0 Calgary.<\/p>\n\t

Le Prix de leadership Birchall est accord\u00e9 par le Club des Coll\u00e8ges militaires royaux (CMR) du Canada en m\u00e9moire du commodore de l\u2019air Leonard J. Birchall CM, OBE, DFC, OO, CD. Ce leader extraordinaire s\u2019est illustr\u00e9 \u00e0 titre d\u2019ancien \u00e9l\u00e8ve-officier du CMR de grand talent, d\u2019officier de l\u2019Aviation royale canadienne (ARC), d\u2019ancien commandant du CMR Kingston, de colonel honoraire du 413e escadron et, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 son d\u00e9c\u00e8s le 10 septembre 2004, de vice-parrain du Club des CMR.<\/p>\n\t

The Birchall Leadership Award commemorates Birchall’s unique leadership quality – the ability to stand up in the face of difficulty or adversity to promote the welfare and safety of those under his command.<\/p>\n\t

The award seeks to carry on this tradition of leadership by honouring its recipients in the name of one of Canada’s finest leaders. Nominees and recipients are selected as persons demonstrating the qualities of leadership (integrity, responsibility, moral courage) that Birchall demonstrated and taught during his career. The award has been presented across the country since 2005.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"Air\n\t

\n\t\tCommodore de l\u2019air Leonard J. Birchall CM, OBE, DFC, OO, CD.\n\t<\/h3>\n\t

On April 4, 1942 then-Squadron Leader Birchall was piloting a Canso flying boat over the Indian Ocean when he sighted and reported an advancing Japanese fleet intent on attacking Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The Allied forces’ response to Birchall’s call successfully blunted the force of the attack and preserved the British fleet for future action.<\/p>\n

L\u2019avion du commodore de l\u2019air Birchall est toutefois abattu, tuant trois membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage. Le pilote et les cinq survivants passeront les trois ann\u00e9es et demie suivantes comme prisonniers de guerre japonais. En tant qu\u2019officier sup\u00e9rieur, Birshall a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 de v\u00e9ritables comp\u00e9tences de leader durant sa captivit\u00e9. Dans le but de maintenir le moral des troupes et de pr\u00e9server la dignit\u00e9 et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des d\u00e9tenus de rang inf\u00e9rieur, il a tenu t\u00eate \u00e0 ses ravisseurs, risquant souvent sa propre vie et subissant des passages \u00e0 tabac. Sa bravoure a inspir\u00e9 d\u2019autres prisonniers \u00e0 suivre son exemple \u00e0 leurs risques et p\u00e9rils.<\/p>\n

Le commodore de l\u2019air Birchall a obtenu son dipl\u00f4me du Coll\u00e8ge militaire royal (CMR) \u00e0 Kingston en 1937. Il est devenu l\u2019un des officiers doyens de l\u2019Aviation royale canadienne, notamment \u00e0 titre de commandant du CMR.<\/p>\n

Le commodore de l\u2019air Birchall a donn\u00e9 de nombreuses conf\u00e9rences sur le leadership et enseign\u00e9 l\u2019importance de l\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9 (qui a donn\u00e9 aux autres l\u2019assurance et le courage de suivre son exemple), de la responsabilit\u00e9 (ne pas bl\u00e2mer les autres, mais accepter la critique au besoin) et du courage moral (se fier \u00e0 son propre sentiment du bien ou du mal).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"BIRCHALL\n\t
